Just Know Peter Carl Fabergé google doodle

Know Who was Peter Carl Faberge?

Born to Gustav Faberge, a jeweller himself, he carried forward the family legacy of jewellry making. The 'House of Faberge' a jewellry firm founded by his father in 1842 was taken over by Peter at the age of twenty four in 1870. Only after he took control of the company, it was able to get international recognition.

Peter Carl Faberge was a Russian jeweller known for his creations called the Faberge eggs. The Faberge eggs are creations similar to Easter eggs, but are adorned with precious gemstones and metal rather than normal day to day things.

The House of Faberge became a name famous for its 'Imperial eggs' and came to be patronised by the Tsars and imperial court as well as other royal houses and aristocracy of Europe. This is also when Faberge's firm took a giant leap from being a mere jewellry maker to creating high art.

As for Faberge, he brought the art of enameling to technical perfection. His work relied on exquisite detailing and designing rather than carat weightage. He preferred to work on the essential appeal of the product. Faberge branched out from St. Petersburg in 1887 to establish a shop in Moscow, where he produced work in the traditional Russian fashion. Later on, significant pieces from Faberge's collection went on to be auctioned.

The House of Fabergé created thousands of bejeweled eggs 1885 to 1917, made in the style of Easter eggs, using precious metals and gemstones.

The most famous, however, are the Imperial Fabergé eggs, originally ordered as a present to his wife by Tsar Alexander III. Fifty Imperial eggs were made, and 42 survived to this day, each valued in millions of dollars.

Petrol Price hike get Impact on car and bike

The Public Sector Oil companies has increased the petrol prices by Rs.2.5 recently. Petrol prices has increased by Rs.10 in last 7 months which is nothing but 22% increase. This is a threat to our economy and automobile sectors. Interestingly this outcome has given a great opportunity for electric vehicle sector to stand and speak their advantages i.e. noiseless, smoke-free drive. Currently the total e-bike industry in India constitutes of less than 5% of automobile sector and looking for a positive market trend. No doubt this is an optimistic change for electric vehicle industry who are looking for a break in their slow moving business.

A day after petrol prices were hiked by an all-time record of Rs 7.50 per litre, leading car makers Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Hyundai Motor today announced discounts of up to Rs 50,000 on petrol models for a limited period.

The Audi e-bike

Audi ebike a bicycle that runs at 80 kmph

Audi's new e-bike Worthersee features a carbon fiber frame and a variety of powered and non-powered riding modes. Maximum speed with motor assist is 80 km/h (50 mph)
When performing wheelies, an electronic control system support the rider when performing tricks and back-wheel biking. Different modes can be set using a smartphone or directly on the e-bike – either “Power Wheelie” mode, with adjustable wheelie angle for less skilled bikers or “Balanced Wheelie” mode for sporting challenges. In “Balanced Wheelie” mode, the electronic control system maintains the rider’s balance, by compensating the biker’s movements forwards or backwards via the electric motor.

cyclist can choose between a total of five cycling modes – pure muscle power, the electric motor alone, or pedaling supported by the electric motor. In the “Pure” mode, the drive power is purely the product of the cyclist’s legs, while in “Pedelec” mode the cyclist is supported by the electric motor that then makes speeds of up to 80 km/h (50 mph) possible and provides a range of 50 to 70 kilometers (31 to 44 miles).

In “eGrip” mode, the Audi e-bike Worthersee runs solely on the electric motor and can reach a top speed of 50 km/h (31 mph). The cyclist then controls forward momentum using a gripshift and can configure the power as desired using the computer.
Electric motor is located at the lowest point on the frame and drives the bottom bracket shaft directly. The maximum torque delivered to the rear wheel is 250 Nm (184.39 lb-ft). The electric motor generates a maximum output of 2.3 kW, a new world best for e-bikes. The complete bike excluding electrical components weighs in at 11 kg (24.25 lb), equivalent to a power-to-weight ratio of 9 kg (19.84 lb) per kilowatt, or 7 kg (15.43 lb) per horsepower – another record-breaking value.

2012 BMW S 1000 RR Reviews

bmw s1000rr

BMW didn’t need to update the S1000RR. It was already the most powerful production motorcycle available, and one of the bestselling, too: 24 percent of all sportbikes sold worldwide in 2010 were S1000RRs. But just two years after its debut, the model has been given a significant revision. The awesome, 193-horsepower engine is unchanged, though electronic reprogramming makes power delivery punchier at low and mid rpm, while numerous chassis changes driven by two seasons of racing make the bike more agile and responsive. These changes are subtle—evolution, not revolution—but significant in number, and address all our criticisms of the first-generation machine.

The S1000RR still offers four drive modes—a reduced-power Rain mode (now increased from 152 to 163 bhp), plus full-power Sport, Race and Slick modes. The throttle-response curve has been recalibrated for more immediacy in all three full-power modes, and the power curve has been boosted for stronger acceleration in Race and Slick. A lighter throttle spring and new, quick-turn twistgrip make engine response feel more direct, while a larger air intake and longer velocity stacks, along with a redesigned exhaust, produce a slight torque increase between 5000 and 7500 rpm.

2012 Moto Guzzi V7 :New

It always strikes me how small the V7s are, which is a good thing because they handle so well. And while all of the V7s catch the eye, the V7 Racer especially stands out. The finish is extraordinary, and its chromed fuel tank is now metal (instead of nylon) like the other 2012 V7s

They now hold 5.8 gallons—a full 1.3 gallons more than the 2008 V7 Classic with a plastic tank. Guzzi claims a 300-mile range. The metallic fuel tanks will make life easier for a lot of prospective V7 owners, as it allows the choice to use a magnetic tank bag when touring. Moto Guzzi also claims new dry weight figures 11 lbs lighter than before, landing all three V7s at 395 lbs.

The air-cooled transverse 90-degree V-Twin is the real gem and, despite being very compact, sounds like a liter-class Twin. The 2012 version of the classic 744cc V-Twin is heavily improved, so much so it could almost be called new. New cylinder heads, lightweight pistons, new cylinders, new intake manifolds, new gearshift selectors, new airbox and even new spark plugs! Benefits are much better low-rpm torque response and a smoother top end.

The changes have led to a boost in power from 48.8 hp at 6800 rpm to 50.0 hp at 6200 rpm, and a boost in torque from 40.3 ft.-lb. at 3600 rpm to 44.3 ft.-lb. at a low 2800 rpm. These new figures are only impressive when you also look at the lowered rpm range that the engine now achieves these figures. It makes for a much more responsive engine from the word go. Compression has been increased by a point (now 10.6:1) due to new engine parts and the combustion is more efficient. This leads to a 12% lower emissions value according to Moto Guzzi.

Around Lake Como the V7s ride with great ease, which is to be expected as these are the very roads Moto Guzzi use as their testing grounds. The steering is slightly slower on the Racer than the V7 Special and V7 Stone, but that’s to give more cornering stability at higher speeds

My 6-foot frame is actually slightly too tall for all the V7s, but as they are nimble motorcycles, it didn’t bother me. The improved suspension feels plush and is a very good compromise between sport and comfort. The V7 Racer doesn’t fail in either departments, but naturally it’s not as comfortable as its siblings, the V7 Special and V7 Stone.

Keep the V7 Racer between 2500-3000 rpm and it’s smooth as butter. Bring the revs over 3K rpm and there are some vibrations to go along with its smooth acceleration. Still, the 44.3 ft.-lb., rather than outright horsepower, that really motivates this Guzzi.

The V7 Special and V7 Stone have almost identical riding positions which are upright and fairly comfortable. They steer with more ease than the V7 Racer which is due to the more conventional handlebar. The differences between the bad-boy V7 Stone and the V7 Special are mainly in the styling department.

Whilst the V7 Special sports spoked wheels on aluminium rims, the V7 Stone has more modern-looking cast-aluminium wheels. Our V7 Special test bikes were fitted with aftermarket saddlebags which also fit the Stone, making both bikes equally practical. Shaft-drive is standard on all three models, adding to their practicality.

The gearbox selector is also new to provide for smoother upshifts. It works, as I didn’t experience any trouble hitting false neutrals or such gremlins. The suspension has been upgraded on all models to provide a more comfortable ride, and the V7 Racer has new twin rear shocks. All the V7 range features the Pirelli Speed Demon tires in a 100/90-18 front and a 130/80-17 rear.

When riding the V7 Special with a pillion, we adjusted the rear suspension for a harder set-up. She reported decent padding in the seat but not enough leg room. Also, due to the pannier mount she couldn’t hold on to the grab rails where she would have liked to. The little 744cc Twin struggles with a pillion aboard, requiring a lot more revs to keep up with the group. The V7s are great solo bikes but slightly under powered for lots of pillion riding.

It’s around $2200 more than the V7 Special and V7 Stone, so definitely the premium V7 for the enthusiast and the collectors

Mercedes-Benz Produces Smart eScooter

Mercedes-Benz announced it will bring the electric Smart eScooter to market in 2014.

The concept model of the Smart eScooter was originally unveiled at the 2010 Paris Auto Show along with an electric bicycle (the Smart eBike) to showcase the Smart ForTwo electric car. Both the car and the eBike are launching this year, but they will be joined by the eScooter in 2014. “The decision in favor of the escooter has been made,” says Dr. Joachim Schmidt, executive vice-president of sales and marketing for Mercedes-Benz Cars. “With this step, we are adding a further important component to our smart mobility concept for urban mobility in the future.”

2012 Suzuki V-Strom 650 : Latest

Slash 2/3 of the horsepower and mate it with cheaper but effective components, and riders more often than not are presented with a competent and fun mount to get along with on the street. One such ride is the new 2012 Suzuki V-Strom 650.
The V-Strom models have generated cult followings since their debuts, with the Wee-Strom carving out a niche as a versatile middleweight. This year’s V-Strom 650 represents a welcome infusion of new blood in the Suzuki lineup (the larger V-Strom also returns to the U.S. lineup after a two-year absence)
Get behind the controls and the 32.9-inch seat still delivers an easy reach to the ground with its slim contours. This is despite the raised seat height of 15mm (owing to suspension adjustments). A high and low seat option are also available, which further raise or lower seat height 20mm. We prefer the high seat option, which provides as skosh more room to the pegs. Reach to the bars feels natural, and while the 650 isn’t a tiny bike, it remains a good match for the smaller statured. At 6’1” our legs splayed out from the tank, but we felt comfortable nonetheless rolling out of Charlotte headed up to the mountains.

While spec sheet may look almost identical to the 2011 model, the Wee-Strom engine is new as well. Instead of using the SV650 Twin, this bike sources the Gladius engine. The 645cc V-Twin maintains the same 81mm bore and 62.6mm stroke, but features new pistons, cylinders, valve springs and cams. This gives the new Wee-Strom more torque down low, with Suzuki touting particular improvement between 4000 and 6000 rpm. The new engine also promises some extra oomph up top. As a rule Suzuki doesn’t claim power numbers, but the last time we tested the Gladius it turned our dyno up to 67.12 rear wheel horsepower and 42.9 lb-ft of torque.

Fueling is smooth with a completely forgiving throttle. The ham-fisted rider need not fear, making the V-Strom ideal for beginner or intermediate riders. The same can be said of the six-speed transmission. The low first gear allows for creeping starts and easy launches. Sixth gear overdrive hums along at 70 mph with the tach holding steady at five grand. Clutch engagement is seamless, Suzuki having changed clutch release mechanism in the new model. We occasionally had to stomp when shifting from neutral to first gear, but once in motion the gearbox is well sorted and shuffles up and down without trouble. We also praise the prominent gear position indicator on the instrument panel – another personal favorite on bike interfaces.

After two days and 400-plus miles, we observed a steady 45-50 mpg efficiency from our test bike. Even considering the half-gallon smaller fuel load in the 2012 model, its 5.3-gallon tank still equates into well over 200 miles of range. That is a welcome trait for a bike with touring pretensions.

First Look Brammo Empulse : New

Brammo Empulse First Look

Brammo, an innovative electric motorcycle manufacturer, revealed not one, but two new electric powered production motorcycles at the media launch in Hollywood, California. Brammo introduced its new Empulse and Empulse R, which showcase a host of new technology from the Ashland, Oregon-based firm.

Pumping out a whopping 54 ponies the Empulse is the first production electric motorcycle to receive a water cooling system. The power is provided by Brammo’s own Brammo Power Lithium-Ion Battery with a life of 1500 cycles to 80% capacity and two different levels of charging. Level 1 fully recharges the battery at a maximum of eight hours while Level 2 maximum charging time is less than half that at 3.5 hours. Every ten minutes of charge adds up to five miles of riding range.

The 440-pound bikes are virtually identical, with the R model spruced up with sleek carbon fiber body components to compliment it’s already innovative technology. The two machines feature the styling aspects of a modern day sport bike…minus the exhaust. The bikes also feature all-new Integrated Electric Transmission (IET). The IET is a mechatronic propulsion unit that was specifically designed to work with the Empulse’s electric motor, clutch, and gear shift…yes, a six-speed gear shift transmission. Brammo’s reasoning for the gear shifting was to bring the electric-powered bike closer to the feeling of a traditional internal combustion engine. Brammo claims it even has the characteristics of engine braking when down-shifting. When fully charged the performance levels offer enough to get the new bike over 100 mph. Claimed ranges include 121 miles through the city, 56 miles on the highway, and 77 miles combined. Two operating modes are provided through a switch on the handlebar. Normal mode limits power by reducing max current delivered to the motor. Sport mode provides maximum performance to both acceleration and top speed. Under deceleration, energy is returned to the battery to extend the riding range.

The suspension components are a fully-adjustable 43mm Marzocchi fork and Sachs Shock. Braking on the Empulse consists of dual 310mm Brembo discs with matching four-piston radial-mount hydraulic calipers. The rear brake is a Brembo single disc with a dual-piston Brembo Brake Caliper. All of this sits on 17-inch Marchesini wheels mounted up with Avon rubber.

This futuristic technology does not come at a small price. As mentioned, the base Empulse model has a price tag of $16,995 with the R model tagged at $18,995. Brammo offers a two-year limited factory warranty, one-year fender-to-fender limited warranty, and a two-year limited powertrain warranty (batteries and motor). Color options include True Blood Red, Eclipsed Black, and White Noise. Unfortunately the base model will not be available until 2013 but the Empulse R will be ready for purchase in June of this year

Yamaha VMAX Hyper Modified Ludovic Lazareth

Yamaha Motor Italia teamed up with renowned Italian customizers Abnormal Cycles to make a special one-off version of their popular Vmax, named Hyper Modified. The model is actually the fourth addition to the ‘Vmax Hyper Modified’ series, following the three previous renditions created by masters Ludovic Lazareth (FRA), Roland Sands (USA) and Marcus Walz (GER). Having won two very prestigious awards last year such as the ‘Best of Show’ at the EICMA Custom 2011 and - especially - the Modified Harley Davidson World Championship 2011, Abnormal Cycles just seemed to be most logical choice in order to see what the Italians could do with the Vmax.

The first thing that catches the eye is obviously its polished aluminum fairings, which have little or nothing to do with the lines of the standard model and include two racing number plates at the back. The whole bodywork was made with a special multi-layered process by specialist Metal Bike, with help from Zucchelli Paint (for the polishing) and Dox Design (for the graphics).

The already impressive 1.700cc V4 engine of the stock version - delivering 200 hp - has been left virtually untouched, with Abnormal Cycles just replacing the standard exhaust system with a captivating 4-in-2 one - specifically designed for this model by Zard - and adding a new engine housing courtesy of F.G.R., which also supplied footpegs and yokes. Other remarkable features of this special Vmax include exclusive spoked wheels by JoNich Wheels, a beautiful leather saddle courtesy of Wild Hog and handlebar commands by Rizoma.

Transmission Features

the crankcase carries a five-speed close-ratio transmission with an universal standard shifting pattern (one down four up). A race-proven wet clutch contributes to smoother downshifting and corner entry.

Engine:
A compact, rock solid 250cc 4 stroke air cooled engine demonstrates the advanced race-proven technology. It provides a smooth curve of power with excellent torque figures from idle to the rev limit.

 Styling:
Wide handlebars and an upright position have been incorporated to give high levels of stability and maneuverability as well as all day comfort and great visibility. Hop into the firm-feeling seat and the RTC feels much more-narrow than most of the sports bikes. While most sport bikes have an aggressive, track-focused riding position, the RTC is the most relaxed of the group. The seat height ranges from 31.7 inches at its lowest setting to 32.5 inches. The way the seat and tail section are shaped lock the rider in place and help keep riders from moving around too much.

The 250 RTC has a clean dash that feeds information to the rider in an aesthetically pleasing and intelligent manner.
RTC one of the lighter bikes in its class. With its 3.5-gallon fuel tank topped of it tips the scales at 340 pounds. With the exhaust routed below the engine it keeps additional weight low to the ground and that translates to its light feel.

Brakes:
With front and rear disc braking system, the Cross runner is not only efficient and powerful, but safe too. 270mm disc is arrested by two-piston calipers at the front, whilst rear 220 mm discs adopt a twin-piston caliper for precise control.

Extensive development work with the ratio of master cylinder-piston to caliper-piston ratios has achieved a high degree of rider feel for optimized levels of braking control and heightened aspects of rider feedback.
