Hyosung GT250R review

the GT250R’s performance. The new comet’s engine is a 75-degree V-twin unit that is both air and liquid cooled. With a displacement of 249cc, the engine belts out a respectable peak power of 27.6 bhp at 10,000 rpm, a bit more than the Honda CBR 250R and a bit less than the Kawasaki Ninja 250R.

Compared to the other two, the Comet’s engine delivers peak power late in the rev band at about 10,000rpm. Like I have said before, I am sure that the weight of the bike is also a factor. But, essentially, the Comet feels a bit unhurried in the initial acceleration cycle, until the revs cross the 6,000-6,500 rpm level. Power delivery is linear and available like a series of Big ‘Mahraja Macs’ at every 1,000 rpm stop.

The bike clocks a speed of 100 kmph within 10 seconds or so. But the mapping and the fuel injection system could both have been tweaked to improve the machine’s pickup.

The funny bit is that the V-twin engine’s peak torque of 22.07 Nm at 8,000 rpm is pretty much an exact match with the other two competing bikes. So, the amount of pulling power being sent to the rear wheel is effectively the same, at least by the book. Rated top speed is 140 kmph. Racing up to touch speeds of over 120 kms is quite easy though with the GT250R’s quick shifting five-speed gearbox. Only you have to keep the engine at the sweet spot where the power is delivered in quick succession.

‘Stares come standard’ could be the apt advertisement tagline for Hyosung GT250R, the latest offering for the country from the Korean motorcycle maker. It is not meant to be as capable as a serious sports bike and I am guessing that the need to keep its fuel efficiency attractive too might have affected its performance. But, that bit of a compromise does tilt the scales in favour of the competition that has the street cred and brand appeal going for them.

The new Hyosung Comet has been priced at Rs 2.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). That makes it a bit expensive too. But things could get interesting if the new owners decide to manufacture the bike in India and leverage the cost savings to come up with a killer price tag.

TVS Motors plans to launch 200-250 cc high-performance bikes

200-250 cc high-performance bikes going to Launch in 2014-15

Looking at the growing demand for performance-oriented motorcycles in India, other big players in the two wheeler category, like Bajaj and Honda, have already launched a range of high-performance motorcycles. On the other hand, TVS Motors’ absence in this segment is really surprising, given that it made its presence felt with concept motorcycles at every Auto Expo held in the country.TVS Motors has been a subject of criticism by motorcycle enthusiasts for having failed to launch brand new high-performance bikes. In recent times, the only launches made by the company in the premium sports motorcycle category are Apache RTR180 ABS, which was one year back, and the recently facelifted Apache twins, although they did not succeed in luring the customers to showrooms. The company, diverting from its previous trends, is all set to unleash new motorcycles in 2014-15 with engine capacity in the range of 200-250 cc. This is a segment in which the company does not produce motorcycles presently.

The manufacturer has been working in collaboration with engineering firms like AVL and Ricardo for quite a while now to develop higher capacity engines. Though new motorcycles from TVS Motors are set to hit the roads, the launch is two years away, which is a long time from now. By that time, other motorcycle makers might come up with different and better technologies.

TVS has mainly focussed on the high volume commuter motorcycle space instead of high-performance motorcycle, despite the fact that it has a dedicated racing division which focusses only on coming up with new products. The failure to take any bold decision and failing to come up with high performance motorcycles has pushed TVS to the number four spot from number three position. Japanese giant Honda recently replaced it as the third largest manufacturer of motorcycles in India.

The company plans to launch high volume commuter motorcycles in the coming few months. Upcoming motorcycles lined up by the manufacturer include a 125 cc commuter motorcycle that will be available very soon, followed by a new version of the Victor by the end of the year, a brand that it is trying to resurrect. TVS is also emphasising on the automatic scooter segment and will launch a 125 cc, four stroke scooter that will join the ranks of Wego in 2012. It will launch a hybrid scooter called Qube which will be used as a test to see if this segment has any takers in the Indian market.

Therefore, it cannot be said that TVS Motors’ R&D is not working on new products, but sports bike lovers would certainly have to wait a couple of years to get their hands on a high-performance four stroke version of Shogun or Shaolin.

Honda Oree Electric Motorcycle

The street bike concept, the diminutive scale model size of the Oree doesn’t diminish its big ideas. The creation of two German design college students, Nike Albertus and Andre Look, the intention of the Oree “was to create a concept bike for dynamic road riding.”

Creating the model only days before the INTERMOT show, Albertus and Look sourced their interest in motorcycles and honed their talent at the Academy of Art and Design in Offenbach am Main. The minimalist design is fashioned around an electric motor, with radial battery packs placed around the circular edge of the powerplant – including the recharge plug. Citing the performance benefits of an electric motor, including high torque at low revs and quick acceleration, Look notes his design also does without a CVT gearbox or clutch. Instead power is transmitted directly via belt drive.

The ambitious student design anticipates a motor producing 90-plus horsepower, 125 lb-ft of torque and top speed near 120 mph. Weight would be in the range of 290-375 lbs with a range of between 80-190 miles, depending on the number of batteries used. Of course, this is all speculative, as no such batteries or motor now exists (remember it’s a design college project!).

Claiming inspiration from popular European naked bikes like the Kawasaki ER-6, the bare styling of the Oree sports a less-is-more gestalt (that’s German for design). Odd-shaped hand controls include hanging mirrors. A circular control display is located in a more conventional position, above the fork – the front houses the headlight assembly. Taillights are tucked under the scant seat.

Chassis design features a single pivot point around the motor for the single-sided swingarm and final drive. Looking down in their stance, a rider will see the shock in action, as it’s placed between the frame’s backbone spars.

“The major aspect of the suspension is to expose functions and attitude – in standstill for every viewer and also while riding,” explains Look. “At first the direct effects of the road can be recognized through the fork and swingarm movement - further the motion of the suspension shocks between the frame halves can be realized.”

Not an official Honda development, Look assures the two students “requested Honda R&D to backup our knowledge of motorcycles with their professional experience.” Readers may remember the big Honda news at the 2008 INTERMOT Bike Show in Cologne was the unveiling of its V-Four concept bike. More akin to a sculpture than a functional ride, the wild-looking V-Four concept got top billing. Sure, the Oree is a scale model, but it looks like a more finished product and in pure creativity, the college kids may have bested Big Red at INTERMOT.

Ferrari Motorcycle Sells at Auction for £85K

World’s Only Ferrari Motorcycle Sells at Auction for £85K

You may ask yourself, how did a Ferrari motorbike come to be? Well, out of pure generosity of Piero Ferrari. In a letter to Mr. Ferrari Jr., David Kay of David Kay Engineering wanted to build a Ferrari badged one-of-a-kind bike as a memorial piece to his late father. After a read over the undoubtedly touching letter, Piero Ferrari granted permission in the form of his signature to David Kay to build the memorable two-wheeler.

Four years later and 3,000 man hours, the built from scratch 900cc Ferrari motorcycle was born. The entire body was shaped from aluminum and molded to what David thought a Ferrari factory motorcycle would look like. Although the bike didn’t get much use, as it was seen as more of a personal expression of art rather than a road-going bike, it came with 105-hp and an estimated top speed of 164 mph.

So where is this one and only now? Well after some not so successful sales, and price tags of over £250K, the bike finally made its way to the auction block in May 2012 where it sold at a price of £85,000 ($166,000) to some lucky Brit

Latest 2012 Husqvarna Nuda 900R

the 900R has been designed with a red-black-white scheme that also features an angular design that is then complemented by a streamlined tail. Despite the impressive look of the bike, it seems that the product is still far from finished with further improvements set to be done before the final product rolls out of the plant.

As for the powertrain, the Nuda 900R will be powered by a modified version of the BMW 900cc parallel twin-cylinder engine, which is light enough to not compromise the bike’s 175 kg weight. Husqvarna left out the official output figures for the 900R, but word has it that it will be well north of 100 horsepower, giving it enough juice to take on some of the industry’s sportsbike heavyweights.

Pricing for the bike is also still unknown, but expect it to be revealed in the coming months, with the most likely setting being the EICMA Show this November in Milan

Latest bikes 2012 Husqvarna TC449

The first Husqvarna motorcycles were built in 1903, with victory coming just 13 years later in 1916 at one of best known enduro races of the time, the Novemberkåsan. This laid the foundation for a success story which remains unparalleled to this day.

Today, Husqvarna has crafted a reputation as one of the most storied motorcycle manufacturers in the world and their expertise in the field is no more evident than in the bikes they produce, including the TC449.

The TC449 is the epitome of what a motocross bike is all about. The bike’s revolutionary mechanical design features a gas tank that has been moved below the seat with the fuel cap to the rear. The air filter box is located directly behind the headstock, making the overall set-up more balanced and user friendly. Likewise, the bodywork comes with integrated graphics that not only enhance the design and function of the TC449, but also resolve the problem of adhesives that peel off under the power wash.

Another significant aspect of the TC449 is the new frame, which has been modified at the steering-head area and reinforced with chrome-moly 25CrMo4 steel plates. The rear seat rail and engine supports have also been similarly strengthened while the preload of the Kayaba suspension was reset, allowing for the fork to carry a harder setting.

To lighten and simplify the electrical system, the 2012 Husqvarna TC449 has had its entire wiring completely redesigned. At the heart of it all is a 450cc twin cam four valve engine that’s fed by a Keihin electronic injection and comes with electric start.

2012 Yamaha TMax 530

The new Yamaha TMax 530 is placed more to cross genres. He also won 3 and lost 4 kilos horses to enhance performance. But this year, with the coming into play of BMW, competition should be fierce. With this development, Yamaha did hit the mark? Back test in Los Angeles, Scooter-Station responds.

The seat itself has not changed. Located 800 mm from the ground, wide enough at its base, it will always be some difficulty for smaller of us. Those that height does not repel discover with pleasure the new handlebars max Yam. Now it is down slightly, tilting less than the upper body forward. But as the hanger is attached to a bridge above, you can always put it back as it was before.
In this version 4.0, the ergonomics of the controls still as good. The levers (with pressure control) fall under the hands and each button is instinctively mania. We may regret not being able to scroll through the information pad digital dashboard directly to stalk. In the deck, the disappearance of the glove box on the left – replaced by a mini-glove box, too tight to accommodate a smartphone – is another reason for discontent. Fortunately the right one is also spacious and can accommodate one liter bottle.
Facing the driver, the dashboard presents a completely revamped design. The instrument panel is perfectly legible. It is behind a new bubble with a manual sense better protection (5 cm high, 1 cm further forward)

Handling and impeccable handling: The advantages of 530
After a few photos taken at the foot of the buildings of downtown LA and a good couple of hours in the saddle, we reach the limits of the city, beyond Beverly Hills and Bel Air. Along the Pacific, we are moving towards more roller shafts. With its long straights and a police (everywhere) ready to punish any excesses, the U.S. remains the country’s ultimate cruising. So cruisons! But unlike the 500, it is now very difficult to yours truly to expand its long stump. Stalled at 55 mph (90 km / h), the new bubble set to its standard position, and mirrors placed so as to provide better protection side, bring satisfaction. A brief us on the motorway but put this quality, at least with the windscreen set at its lowest. It would be interesting to test the accessory position, that the course of our trial did not permit.

Latest Honda CRF250L 2012

Honda Crf 250L had earlier launched in the month of May in Japan and it was speculated that the bike may launch in India too considering the fact that the bike not only has a powerful engine but is also fuel efficient. Still, there has been no official word from the company about the bike's launch in the country but most of the credible publication houses of India in automobile Industry believe hit the market sooner than later. The engine that the CRF250L features has an identical bore and stroke of CBR250R. In fact, majority of the gear ratios are same. What separates the two bikes in terms of engine is the power and the torque output. Seems like Honda focused more on the fuel efficiency factor as the CRF250L gives mileage than CBR250R but compromises on

CRF250L churns out a maximum power of 23 bhp along with a maximum torque of 22 Nm as compared to CBR250R's maximum power of 25 bhp and a maximum torque of 23 Nm. The company says that the bike garners a fuel efficiency of 44.3 kmpL when driven at a constant speed of 60 kmpL which would translate into 30 to 35 kmpL in day to day riding conditions.
But fuel efficiency is not the only reason for Honda to launch the bike in the country. Hero Impulse was highly successful in India and made sure that the country entered into a new age of off-road motorcycling. The company therefore can cash in on an unexplored area of the market and take up a major share from Hero who are riding on the success of Hero Impulse. If Honda does succeed, there is a high probability that other major companies may jump on the bandwagon.
